SYNOPSIS
At the initiative of Tomaž Pandur, performed by Atelje Japelj and Livija Pandur and in collaboration with the writer, four remarkable literary evenings will take place in the city of the European Capital of Culture and large illuminated signs with the names of Jančar’s works will light up, changing the image of the city of Maribor. The inscriptions bearing the names of the books are: The Northern Lights, That Night I Saw Her, Catherine, the Peacock and the Jesuit, Galjot, Brioni, The Great Brilliant Waltz. Literary events with the writer are: The Northern Lights in Alojzijev Church, The Soul of Europe with Claudio Magris and Karl-Markus Gaus in Vetrinjské dvor, Art and Madness in the Provincial Museum Maribor and the premiere of the Great Brilliant Waltz in the Slovenian National Theater Maribor. The well-attended events and great interest in the reprints of Jančar’s books show that the people of Maribor awaited the return of Drago Jančar and his literature to the writer’s hometown, over which the Northern Light once again shone, not only with great interest, but also with gratitude. The documentary film, created at the initiative of Mitja Čandra and directed by Maja Weiss, portrays Drago Jančar at the scene of events and in special places in the city, where the writer speaks for the first time about personal memories and things that found a place in his literary works.
